Skywatch Friday - Dhamekh Stupa at Sarnath, Varanasi

Anyone who visit Varanasi visit the historic town of Sarnath. Located on the outskirts of Varanasi town, it is easily accessible. Exploring Sarnath requires at least half a day. The star attraction of Sarnath is the "Dhamekh Stupa" which towers into the sky at an height of 300 feet. It is believed to contain relics of Lord Buddha who delivered his first sermon to his disciples after enlightenment here. One of the holiest place for Buddhists.

We clicked this picture on a bright sunny morning in 2011 when we went on three weeks long road trip across central India.
